Sometimes, the answer to breast cancer lies within |
| When a young woman has several close relatives diagnosed with breast cancer, and she hears the news she has it too, health-care experts often recommend she get genetic testing. These tests look for inherited gene mutations that raise cancer risk. But what if she's got few adult women in her family tree? City of Hope researchers say more of these young women should be candidates for testing, too. |

| Julian Yarbrough desperately needed a hematopoietic cell transplant to treat his leukemia. Thanks to some unexpected donors, the teenager got one at City of Hope. Now a legislative push might spur more such happy endings. |
| Two-thirds of women know that chemotherapy and radiation are treatments for breast cancer, but only about a quarter know that hormone therapy and targeted drugs also are options, according to a recent survey by the nonprofit group CancerCare. Hormone therapy, which includes tamoxifen, aims to block the hormones that fuel some breast cancers. Targeted therapies, which include Herceptin, interfere with specific ways that cancer cells grow. City of Hope offers the full spectrum of breast cancer treatments, as well as the next generation of investigational medications through clinical trials. |
